Preserving Family Ties When Parents Choose to Separate

aka Children's Rights Council of Connecticut and The Toby Center (FL)   |   Delray Beach, FL   |  www.thetobycenter.org

Mission

THE MISSION IS TO: The Toby Center was founded in 2008 to improve child outcomes when parents separate. This is accomplished by providing affordable child reunification services as supervised visitation, family therapy, neutral child exchange and parenting education for children in temporary foster care (25%) and those subject to child custody awards in family court (75%). The important goals for the Toby Center is to assure that these court ordered services are afforded to all residents of metropolitan areas regardless of ability to pay for these services. The Toby Center program provides psycho-social child centered court ordered visitation and therapeutic services to help family members cope and children thrive through the challenges of parental separation, divorce and child custody.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Child Access Services

Child Access Services are court ordered visitation and child exchange services which offer emotional and physical protection to parents seeking time sharing with their children.

1) Supervised Visitation

Supervised Visitation provides parents with supportive and comfortable visitation time with their children based on court ordered days and times.

2) Therapeutic Visitation

Therapeutic Visitation is supervised visitation which offers selected parents more guidance, parenting instruction, behavior modification, and more interpersonal assistance than supportive supervised visitation. A trained therapist facilitates these sessions.

3) Monitored Child Exchange

Monitored Child Exchange allows parents a neutral location for exchanging their children without the pressures of face to face contact and avoiding the use of police stations normally considered to protect the parties.

Monitored child exchange remains an option for parents who may have TRO's, temporary restraining orders, and who simply have not yet been able to appropriately communicate without the fear of conflict.

Child Access Services ensure that children have the opportunities to see have time sharing with their parents, and to have a more normalized, safe relationship with their parents.

All interactions are recorded through written narratives and reports. Parents sign in sheets also provide accountability to the Courts.
