What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Doernbecher Freestyle
Created in 2003, this remarkable fundraising partnership between OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and Nike gives young patients the opportunity to create limited edition shoes, apparel and equipment that are sold at nike.com and at select Nike and partner retail locations throughout the U.S. The money generated from the sale of the Freestyle collection benefits OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital. So far, the program has raised more than $27 million. To create their signature footwear, the kids first put pen to paper, coloring and sketching on blank templates to come up with a concept. Then they each sit down with their own Nike designer to hammer out the details and put the finishing touches on their shoes, apparel and equipment. The results are as individual as the kids that created them. Each represents the life of a very special kid—and each will help provide healthcare for the children that need it most.
Friends of Doernbecher
Friends of Doernbecher is a volunteer organization dedicated to long-term support for OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital. The purpose of Friends of Doernbecher, through its volunteers, is to advocate and foster regional and community support for Doernbecher to directly benefit the well-being of children.
Kids Making Miracles
Kids Making Miracles (KMM) began in 1991 as a simple coin drive in one local elementary school. Today, hundreds of K-12 students at schools throughout Oregon and southwest Washington have helped raise funds for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital! The program gives these students a sense of purpose and empowers them to make a meaningful contribution to their community--by helping children just like themselves. They are also given the opportunity to develop important life skills, such as leadership and teamwork. The program continues to thrive because of the hard-working commitment of the enthusiastic students and community.
Children's Miracle Network
Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation joined Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) in 1984 (during CMN’s second year). CMN is the premier alliance of children’s hospitals in North America. They are dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children’s hospitals. Currently, there are more than 170 member hospitals.
