What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
YWCA State Preschool Center
An early educational program licensed in 1995, currently operating at full capacity serving 96 preschool children 225 days per school cycle. Providing morning and afternoon 3.5 hrs sessions. Our program is structured according to the Quality Improvement Rating System and activities are guided by Pyramid Model developed by the Center on the Social and Emotional Foundation for Early Learning (CSEFEL). Our program continues to participate the “Race To the Top- Early Learning Challenge” (RTT-ELC) initiative with the objective of strengthening the quality of programs to reduce the educational gap in our community.
YW Teen Program
The YW-Teens Program focuses on developing analytical skills and self-awareness by focusing on gender norms with a culturally appropriate lens. Our program emphasizes prevention by serving middle school age girls. We continues to implement an innovative framework based the use of contemporary materials guided by two evidence based curricula. “Program M” curriculum aimed at bringing awareness about gender inequalities, rights, and health; and ¡Cuidate!, a curriculum designed to reduce the risk of HIV in the Latino population. We reframe the conversation about taking care of their body by addressing the importance of reducing HIV.
The YWCA Community Engagement Program
Has 3 component: (1) The YWCA Summer Program where we facilitate cultural and recreational activities for the youth distribute more than 1,500 free nutritious lunches every summer. (2) The Manfre Manor Facility a subsidize service that provides a safe space for community members to conduct meetings, retreats, trainings or social activities. (3) The YWCA is also a fiscal agent and active coordinator member for the Multicultural Celebration whose mission is to promote the exchange of historical and cultural traditions through songs, dance and engaging activities. The goal is for Watsonville children and adults alike to know their city’s rich history and diversity of culture. In addition, the YWCA is the organizing agency for the International Women’s Day in Watsonville which honors the contribution by women to the community
