Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Shanti's Margot Murphy Women's Cancer Program

Shanti's Margot Murphy Women's Cancer Program reduces the obstacles faced by cancer patients by providing a continuum of tailored services that address their physical, emotional, psychosocial, educational, and support needs. Clients are primarily medically underserved and have low-income; the majority require services in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Taishanese.

Population(s) Served
People with diseases and illnesses
Economically disadvantaged people

Shanti's HIV Services Program is a unique program that serves many clients who are rejected for service by other organizations in San Francisco. We provide non-judgmental, harm-reduction based, free support services to people living with HIV (PLWH), including client advocacy, navigation, emotional support, transportation, and health education, with a special focus on serving chronically poor PLWH. Without our program, each year hundreds of underserved PLWH would face tremendous obstacles in accessing care and maintaining treatment.

Population(s) Served
People with HIV/AIDS

Shanti offers opportunities for members of the community to be of service, to put their compassion, their skills, and their interests into action to support support their neighbors.

Each year, hundreds of Shanti volunteers provide emotional and practical peer support services to some of San Francisco’s most underserved individuals, from those with challenges such as HIV/AIDS, women’s cancer, and other life-threatening illnesses to LGBT seniors and adults with disabilities facing isolation.

Population(s) Served
Adults

LGBTQ+ Aging & Abilities Support Network (LAASN) addresses social isolation as well as emotional, behavioral, and health challenges faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer seniors and adults with disabilities. Specifically, our services are designed to provide:

- Emotional and practical support through care navigation, peer support groups, and Shanti Peer Support Volunteers.
- Client advocacy to assist with navigation through the social service system.
- Social programming that offers connective programs that support and enhance the emotional and behavioral well-being of clients.

Population(s) Served
LGBTQ people
Seniors

Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS) keeps people and their companion animals together.

PAWS believes that no one should have to make the difficult choice of caring for themselves or caring for their beloved pets. We provide free comprehensive support services for pets of seniors and individuals living with disability or illness. Services include a free pet food and supply bank, veterinary services, dog walking, and other pet support.
