Community Institute for Psychotherapy

aka CIP   |   San Rafael, CA   |  cipmarin.org

Mission

CIP has worked since 1977 to meet the mental health needs of Marin County through its dual mission: to strengthen families and heal individuals by providing quality, low-fee mental health services; and to provide a structured intensive training program for qualified psychotherapy interns. CIP serves as a safety net for those with literally nowhere else to turn for the care they need.

We at CIP believe that through psychotherapy, training, education, and prevention, we have a vital role to play in personal and global change. We believe that the healing of the individual and the healing of the planet are inseparable. Our work is accomplished in cooperation and coordination with a wide variety of community-based, public and private agencies and individuals throughout Marin County.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

The goal of Help for Disadvantaged Families and Individuals At Risk is to provide needed mental health services to low-income, uninsured Marin residents who cannot otherwise obtain them, and thereby decrease incidence of such problems as child abuse and neglect, homelessness, welfare and criminal justice involvement, and hospitalization. Services provided by this program have been shown to maximize children's healthy emotional development and school readiness; help families create safe, nurturing homes; provide the resources needed by individuals, including those with chronic mental illness, to achieve maximum functioning and emotional stability; and address the underlying causes of the problems that compromise self-sufficiency, productivity, and people's ability to contribute to a strong, vibrant community. Fees for service are set on a sliding scale, based on clients' ability to pay. Counseling is provided by qualified intern-psychotherapists under the close supervision of licensed professionals.
