What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Arts Education
The YoloArts arts education program, led by regional professional artists,
offer drawing, painting, dance, mural design and creation, and ceramics and
it is conducted in close cooperation with the school principal and classroom
teachers. All of the art lessons are currently standards aligned and will be
Common Core compliant. Partner schools may choose to create a
collaborative public artwork to be installed on their campus or select an arts related field trip or assembly as a component of program we offer.
Almost 2,000 students in Yolo County (most in high needs schools) experience arts education taught by professional artists working with classroom teachers administered by YoloArts. This work includes the students in the Yolo County juvenile hall and at the community high school. Important, amazing and vibrant work with youth - we love this part of the job!
Juvenile Justice Arts Education
The Juvenile Justice program serves students incarcerated at Yolo Juvenile Hall or attending Cesar Chavez Community Schools. This program provides multi-disciplinary arts instruction by professional teaching artists to encourage and provide artistic skills for constructive and meaningful expression. The program culminates with a final arts exhibition, mural, and chapbook. The program has been a collaboration of YoloArts and Yolo County Probation since 2012.
Scope: 300 Students, 2 hours of weekly instruction per instructor, over 16-24 weeks.
Art Mix
ArtMix is an artist - in residency program that brings quality, standards-based arts education into public school classrooms taught by local professional artists. Each participating school site selects a visual or performing arts discipline for their school wide focus. During the residency teaching artists engage the students in art making focusing on process driven exploration and skill development. Each residency begins with an art related field trip or assembly and culminates in a final art exhibition or performance.
Scope: 1000 students, 1-2 hours of weekly instruction, over 6-12 weeks.
Art & Ag in the Classroom
The Art and Ag in the Classroom program pair on-farm experiences of Yolo County K-12 students with in-class arts experiences. The program brings artists and farmers together for the educational benefit of the students, to meet existing academic standards, and with the long-term goal of raising awareness of the importance of preserving farmland, and promoting visual arts and sustainable agriculture in Yolo County. Through farm field trips, followed by in-class art instruction in painting, drawing, digital art, ceramics, or dance, students develop a deeper appreciation for farms.
Scope: 1 all day farm field trip and 6 weeks of instruction for 4 classrooms.
Blues in Yolo County Schools
Blues in the Schools is a Sacramento Blues Society program that brings Blues music into the classroom. The program consists of a lecture/concert delivered by professional musicians. This musical experience engages and teaches students the history, culture, and musical genre of the Blues. YoloArts funds Blues in the Schools in Yolo County schools.
Scope: 6 schools receive 1 lecture/concert.
Poetry Out Loud
Poetry Out Loud is a state wide poet project that culminates in a national recitation contest for high school students and is administered in Yolo County by YoloArts. Student participants interpret, memorize, and recite three poems within a competition framework that starts in the classroom. The California Arts Council hosts the California state wide competition each spring in Sacramento.
Scope: Serves 2 schools, each with 1 poet in residence for 4 weeks.
Sacramento Ballet- “Join our PARTY!” Project Cost: In Progress currently Request: Pending
In "Join our PARTY!" Sacramento Ballet offers an interactive and exciting introduction to dance through the overarching theme of character qualities that lead to success. Utilizing a multi-faceted approach that includes music, costume, dance, mime, audience interaction, and more, professional company dancers present a window into the world of ballet while tying the arts to real world challenges students may face in school and daily life.
Art & AG Project
The Art & Ag Project remains a signature creative placemaking effort for us as it connects artists with Yolo County farms, and results in great art showcased at the annual Art Farm Gala.
The Art and Ag project is a program that cultivates a dialogue between artists, farmers and the community to raise awareness of the importance of preserving working landscapes and to promote sustainable agriculture and visual arts in Yolo County.
The nationally recognized program that beautifully braids art, local agriculture and ag products through Master Artists’ workshops, art farm visits, and a Juried Exhibition & Festival featuring new work by Northern California artists, local produce, beer and wine, in collaboration with regional guest curators. Art Farm proceeds are split with Art and Ag, Yolo Land Trust, and Yolo Farm to Fork Foundation.
