1887 Map Restoration
The restoration of an 1887 US map that hung on the wall of the Nels and Emma Just home from 1887 through the spring of 2014. The will be professionally restored and mounted in a protective case before being placed back on the wall of the historic home. The Association was successful in getting a matching grant of $2,000 from the Idaho Heritage Trust. We were successful in raising an additional $1500 from members through sale of reprints of the map. We expect to cover the remainder of the restoration through member donations and an annual charitable auction that supports the Association.
We have shown our capability in describing our history and making a solid case for preserving it with this map project. We believe this success will give the Idaho Heritage trust and our membership confidence that we can follow through with an important, delicate project.

The map has been deteriorating for many years. This project stopped the deterioration and slowed future deterioration by removing the original linen backing and replacing it with acid-free backing. Additionally the map will now be protected behind preservation glass.
This project will make the map much more accessible to the public. It has been virtually unseen since 1976 when the last resident of the house passed away. We will now have the capability of displaying the map safely inside the home, and also sharing it safely at public venues.
