What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

ANSA fulfills its mission through effective programs including THE AMANDLA AIDS FUND (AAF) - A grantmaking initiative focused on addressing pivotal root causes and unmet needs in South Africa's AIDS crisis. Chaired by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, AAF grantmaking is guided by leading African experts and activists and its grants empower and support effective South African-led efforts that combat HIV/AIDS, increase voluntary testing, treatment and literacy training, or provide essential services for AIDS orphans. Founded in 2003 AAF has already allocated and distributed over $1.25 million dollars. IT TAKES A VILLAGE (ITV) - In partnership with South African AIDS experts, child welfare NGOs and the AIDS Foundation of South Africa, ANSA developed ITV to address the unmet needs of AIDS orphans who are living on their own or in informal foster care. ITV builds capacity for community organizations to better serve orphans and vulnerable children; provides comprehensive services for orphans and their caregivers including counseling, legal and social services, adoption placement, material aid, daycare and respite care; mitigates the impact of HIV/AIDS on the community through prevention and treatment access, and stabilizes food sources by creating community gardens, providing livestock, etc. Launched in 2005, ITV is already operating in three extremely hardhit communities and has served over 5,000 children. Current domestic programs include: POSITIVELY SPEAKING, a collaboration with the Los Angeles Unified School District to bridge the current gap in HIV/AIDS prevention and education in middle and high schools; ELECTION PROTECTION (EP) - ANSA is a core member and the media producing partner for a coalition of over 100 leading national, state, and local organizations working together to safeguard voters rights, especially in African American, Latino, and other historically disenfranchised communities. EP informs the public about upcoming elections, encourages voter participation, advises voters of their legal rights, and offers free, immediate legal assistance through a toll-free number to those encountering obstacles when trying to register and vote.
