What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Currently we are working with two communities in Uganda to help them build primary schools. Both communities have established community based organizations (CBOs) given the task of directing the construction of the schools. WCDP works with these CBOs to implement the projects they wish to carry out. Each project has an approximate proposed budget of $450,000, spread out over the 3-5 year period of the program.
Community Capacity Building
Working with community based organizations to build capacity for their own development by assisting with plan development, budgeting, proposal writing and fundraising.
Harmony Villages
WCDP is developing a certification program to provide Harmony Village designations to villages in developing countries that meet a set of criteria that address, food and sanitation, water and energy, shelter, health and recreation, education and business development, and appreciation of art, culture and the natural environment.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
WCDP wishes to expand our work by engaging communities more deeply as they plan their futures. We seek to explore the dreams and visions of the village residents to ensure that the village plan meets all of their needs and goals. We also seek to develop a standard village planning workbook that community based organizations can use themselves to guide their own development. Part of this publication will help direct the community to achieve Harmony Village status for certification as a Harmony Village, which seeks to ensure that communities are developing in equitable and environmentally sustainable ways. WCDP is also seeking to expand beyond Uganda and open operations in Haiti.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
WCDP is revisioning itself, and rebuilding our Board of Directors to better serve our needs going forward.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
WCDP's founder and director has been engaging communities for more than 20 years on these issues and continues to education himself on relevant fields of study including rural planning, landscape design, capacity building, development of microfinance programs, and more. We are engaging other professionals in a variety of fields to join the organization as board members so that we can grow our own capacity as we seek to build the capacity of others.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
WCDP has brought on two community development professionals with experience in international development. We are also working with another professional who is currently operating in Haiti, and is, himself, of Haitian decent. WCDP has also started developing the fundamental concepts of the Harmony Village project. What we have still to accomplish is gaining foundation support for developing this concept and implementing it as a new program. We are also seeking foundation support for the development of the Village Planner Workbook, which is currently being researched. We have yet to make a trip to Haiti to evaluate the need and opportunities there, and understand how WCDP can best serve those communities.
