What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Pacoima Beautiful Youth Environmentalists (PBYES)
PBYES provides youth, opportunities for community involvement, promotes leadership development, college prep, civic engagement, and environmental awareness. PBYES provides resources for youth to experience and highlight community pride and educational success. Our students engage in academic research, public speaking, and positive community expression by finding solutions to social inequalities.
Safer Homes for a Healthier Community (SHHC)
Our Safer Homes Promotoras work to reduce exposure to home health hazards like lead, toxics, and asthma triggers, though residents education and door to door, face to face outreach. Through organizational and individual outreach, Pacoima Beautiful has provided education to thousands of residents on how to prevent exposure to potentially harmful indoor pollutants.
Community Organizing and Environmental Planning
These programs address the Northeast San Fernando Valley's historic pollution burden through better planning and community projects (like the Pacoima Wash project, Urban Greening Plan), and concentrating on cumulative impacts of multiple pollution sources - compounded by lack of access to good jobs, open space, affordable health care, housing, healthy foods and higher education.
