Mission

YUGO was actually started sometime in the late 1950's and grew out of the youth ministry of the First Baptist Church of Downey, CA. Eventually, the growth of the work made it necessary for a separate organization to be formed. From 1965 until 1978, YUGO's activities were entirely run by volunteers. Since 1978, our paid staff has grown to 25 and more than 3,000 youth and their leaders work with YUGO each year in the border towns of northern Mexico.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

YUGO

YUGO's "flagship" ministry continues to be its week-long outreach trips to Mexico. These trips have exposed many thousands of N American youth to the challenges of ministry in a cross-cultural environment, uniquely equipping them for leadership roles internationally or in their home churches. Our outreach center in Ensenada provides a plethora of opportunities for groups and individuals, including relief work, construction projects, all phases of outreach activities, etc. Additionally, YUGO staff members work in Mexico helping to establish churches and train local workers for work in their churches.
