Firefighter and Family Assistance

The Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firefighter’s Fund reviews each need for assistance on an individual basis as the circumstances vary. One of the more common needs is widows and children who need financial assistance for basic living expenses, such as rent or mortgage as well as health insurance coverage.

Population(s) Served

The fund provides select pieces of durable medical equipment to firefighters in need after spending years performing the physically demanding job of firefighting .

Population(s) Served

The Fund also offers college, vocational or trade school scholarships to the children of LAFD firefighters who passed away while on active duty.

Population(s) Served

When applicable, the fund also provides LAFD Firefighter families assistance with funerals and burials, including a traditional flag ceremony tribute. The charity also may guide surviving families through the lengthy process and paperwork required by various government agencies for a duty-related death.
